Friday Again

Things to keep in mind for the week to come...

Not everyone thinks like you and everyone is self involved. When calling people selfish, I often wonder if I'd act the same way. I know I'm terribly selfish and wish I was more willing to give more of myself. I don't know what makes me hang on to things as much as I do. Perhaps the fear of going with out.

We don't always pick our friends. This may be something our parents or teachers told us in high school but today it rings true.

One can never own too many books. But it sure is a pain in the ass to pack them all.

Relationships really are overrated and anyone telling you otherwise is in a relationship. All relationships hang on the premise of codependency and everyone's goal should be to move beyond this and create their own happiness. Once we master this, relationships will cease to be the hard work we all make them out to be. Relationships are work, yes, but love is not.

When your supervisor is out for the afternoon, it really is hard to get any work done.

Have a rapturous weekend!

Top Ten Things I Can't Wait To Do At The New House

In no particular order...

1. Unpack

2. Bake cookies - the oven at my current place doesn't work, or the pilot light needs to be turned on, something to that affect.

3. Take Blue on a walk around the neighborhood. Mags, watch out! (oh, I'm calling Magnolia Mags now. Melissa suggested 'Nolia, so we'll see if that catches on).

4. Christen each room with a blunt.

5. Watch movies with my roomies.

6. Hang Christmas decorations. I like to do this over the Thanksgiving holiday. We'll see if Renee gives me the okay.

7. Plant a garden.

8. Have a house party.

9. Cook dinner for my roomies (I love these girls)

10. Take a hot bath!

A Home

It's been a minute since my last post and I'm at work so need to make this quick:

We got the house!! (I can't believe I haven't posted something about it, we found out last week)

We move in next weekend. I've hardly packed a thing, I need to get busy.

I just want to be in there already and skip the whole moving part.

It's so nice to not house hunt on Craigslist everyday.

Oh, and I also checked out the new office space in Ballard yesterday. It's right next door to where the Rat City Rollergirls will be practicing. Pretty sweet.

I heart Magnolia

Paper Heart

Renee and I saw Paper Heart last night. If you're down with love or been wondering if it even exists for you, this movie should give a little hope. You'll at least crack a smile at the cute awkward chemistry between Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera. Not your typical romantic comedy, not your typical documentary.
Man, I think I've seen more movies in the past two weeks than I have in the past six months. Renee is back!

Oh the joys of waiting...

We turned in our applications last night for the house. Now we get to play the waiting game. The sit around in an anxious state of worry until our landlord (hopefully) calls us with the good news game. She's already called to verify my employment. How fitting that I'm the one who answers the phone. We should know by tomorrow if she's making calls today. Keep your fingers crossed interwebs!!

Summer Rain

I can't remember the last time it rained. The summers here are beautiful and it doesn't rain as much as people think but I've been surprised at the lack of rain the last couple of years. It smells so good outside right now. Warm pavement cooling off. This is the best it ever smells in the city.
I love the approaching fall. I know it's only August but with nights like this, you know it's getting closer.

And My So-Called Life is available on Hulu now! It's scary how much I'm excited about this. Now that I don't have TV it's great to find all these shows online. I hate to wax nostalgic about a 90's teen drama but this show pretty much cemented my straigthood. Jared Leto was it as far as I was concerned. But watching the first two episodes tonight I realized what an ass he was. Anyway, looking forward to lots of Claire Dane crying (she's a good crier, makes the most ridiculous face).

Katie is back in town so we're all going to look at the house tomorrow. Hopefully turning in applications too. Katie needs to see it but how can she not love it? I'm sure once she sees the place she'll fall in love and want to throw down money on the spot. I really want to stop looking; I'm afraid this is the best place we'll find. It'll work out.

Love of Music

I love these lines from the book I'm reading...

"He considered music a liberating force: it liberated him from loneliness, introversion, the dust of the library; it opened the door of his body and allowed his soul to step out into the world to make friends."

Music is such a liberating force. I've never felt so lifted up when listening to music. A day without music is a day not worth living. Perhaps a little extreme but when you love something, you don't want to be without it.

Afternoon plans?

Blue and I are headed to the dog park. It's slightly over cast and chilly so I hope the place isn't deserted. I got some cleaning done this morning and that's pretty much it. Time to get out of the house.

Jones!

I watched the newest Indiana Jones flick last night and really didn't understand a thing that was going on.

Is Cate Blanchette German or Russian? How do a brigade of Russian soldiers make it onto McCarthy era US soil? I guess you just have to suspend believe to enjoy this movie. My favorite moment of suspended belief was swinging through the trees with Shia Labeouf. Amazing and gravity defying. But I think archeologists and their sons had super human strength in the 1940's & 50's. Indy did, after all, survive a nuclear blast in a refrigerator.

I wonder what the 60's will bring for Indiana Jones? He's a married man now, possibly passing on the torch to young Labeouf. I see a transformers cross-over.

I'm probably a little late on getting hip to the new Metric album but I bought it tonight while downtown exchanging a shirt and I couldn't be happier with it. Yey for good chick rock (said like a true post modern feminist).

Men & Sex

Okay, I know these are the two last subjects any woman wants to talk about but c'mon men! In preparation for a date, don't tell the woman ahead of time that you had sex the night before and you don't want that to mess up the chance of getting laid tonight. I just don't understand that logic. I can understand the honesty but no, wait, I don't understand the honesty.

Is it weird that I can find some comfort in the fact that men and women will never understand each other? I mean, it's one less thing to worry about. I've become pretty good at going with the dating flow. I've shrugged off rejection, I've avoid awkward glances, I've made-out at the bar. I've even thrown a couple boyfriends in there. But I don't understand why crazy, unstable, selfish girls get all the play. Hey, I'm great in the sack too and I won't go through your texts or key your car.

Maybe men really do like the drama, the game. Women like it too but we all spend way too much time denying the fact that we love the emotional back and forth. We keep coming back for more so it must not be too bad. Like Greg Kinear said in the shitty movie we watched last night, "love is everything". Well, love and sex.

Friday

Sarah is not coming. This leaves the weekend open to packing and sleeping in. I really need to take Blue to the dog park. Dog park, Bauhaus and a book, that is how I want to spend one afternoon this weekend. I bought a bunch of cleaning supplies last night so I need to get to work. I don't want this move to sneak up on me and I do want to get my deposit back. It will be much easier to pack and clean when I know that house is ours. We're still waiting to get the applications from the owner. This waiting game is really going to suck.

We found a house!

And it is awesome! I just hope we can come up with the cash. The photos really don't do the place any justice; it's much bigger than it looks. 3 floors, 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms. Garage, back patio, the works pretty much. Great location, East side of Magnolia. Thank you universe!

What's going on this weekend?

My friend Sarah is coming into town from Spokane. Or so she claims. She has a history of making plans to come to visit and canceling last minute. We'll see if she shows up. No word from her today.
This weekend I will be house hunting and more than likely hitting up the Tattoo Expo. I wanted to get a new piece but what with moving at the end of the month, I don't think that's a wise decision.
Maybe I should start packing? I want to get rid of as much as possible. That means my dirty old couch. Blue keeps tearing into it. But neither Katie or Renee have any furniture really so our living room will probably be a little empty for awhile.
I'm starving, time for lunch.

(500) Days of Summer

Cute, yes. Zooey Deschanel has the BIGGEST eyes ever. I wish I had her wardrobe to wear around the office. The soundtrack is fantastic. You can never go wrong with The Smiths. Morissey forever.

Delancy

Delancy - Pizza kitchen from Brandon Pettit and Molly Wizenberg opens August 12th in Ballard. I cannot wait to try the wood fire pizza. I've been craving pizza lately. Check out the gorgeous photos. Doesn't it make you hungry? I hope to find a place in Ballard soon. Can't wait to move!
Oh, and the blueberry yogurt pops look amazing too! Photos courtesy of thecookbookchronicles.com

Funny People

Renee and I saw Funny People on Saturday night. Although I felt the plot was a little wonky and the movie was definitely too long, it was hilarious. And you can't go wrong with Jason Schwartzman, the future Mr. Girlcreateslove.

Spaced

Have you seen this show? The first two seasons are available on Hulu. Please, please, please check it out.

Where is my home?

I have been house hunting with my friend Katie for what seems like forever but has actually only been about 2 weeks. I have this vision of our perfect home and I hope some version of it is out there. We are also looking for a third roommate as another person would allow us to get a bigger place with the chance of a smaller rent. It's been over a year since I had a roommate but the prospect of living with someone other than Blue is actually pretty exciting. I get lonely and I hope more people around will keep me busy.
So, please Universe, find a house for us. One we can call home and bake cookies in.

Bicycles

I recently dated a guy who rides his bike everyday, everywhere. His enthusiasm was catching. I now want a bike and watched a documentary on it's evolution when I got home from work. How would you like to pedal around on one of these?
